ILA Portraits - Pioneers of the aerospace industry and political decision-makers provide personal insights and assess current industry trends.
1 Where do you see the aerospace industry in 2050, which technologies that are not commonly used today will we take for granted in the future?
ANSWER: Electric and autonomous flight will play a bigger role than today, hydrogen will be an important source of power. Hybridization will be part of the design and energy choices we make in order to find the best fit for purpose mobility choices. With so many players working on different solutions we can see a future where air mobility will be part of our daily lives and the mobility choices we make as individuals and communities.
2 How do we achieve the ambitious sustainability goals? What exactly are the drivers of change here?
ANSWER: The main driver of change is the aviation industry’s pioneer spirit which has been there since the first aeroplanes have been developed. The industry has always accepted new challenges in terms of speed, height, size and other parameters. Today, reducing emissions is the challenge for our entire industry and Airbus is leveraging strong decarbonisation and innovation roadmaps to reach this goal.
3 Was there any development in the industry, that has moved you recently? Which one?
ANSWER: I’m moved every day by the sheer number of efforts that so many players, from small startups to big corporations, put into the quest for sustainable aviation. We have a team of brilliant and passionate colleagues at Airbus and I’m so proud to be a part of this revolution.
